In honour of the festival’s fifth edition, A L’ARME! 2017 will be shaped by a fun and innovative rock feeling. The Norwegian power trio Elephant 9 will mark the first major turning point for the festival. They will be presenting a wild instrumental rock-cocktail of drums, bass, and jangly keyboards featuring distinctive Fender Rhodes sounds and dazzling Hammond organ cascades. Overt retro vibes are nipped in the bud by some of today’s most brilliant jazz rock and avant-garde metal drumming: Torstein Lofthus who, together with bass player Nikolai Hængsle Eilertsen, forms the unyielding, endlessly driving rhythm section. Keyboard wizard Ståle Storkløkken has already worked together with the psychedelic-rock legend Motorpsycho and is one of the founders of the world-famous jazz-noise formation Supersilent. Elephant 9, who last performed in Berlin seven years ago, truly allows his compositional and improvisational genius to shine – concertgoers can look forward to an intense, psychedelic prog rock explosion that is rarely experienced in this form and in such high quality in the 21st century. A summer night happening in the massive architecture of Berghain Berlin.
