GROUPSHOW

GROUPSHOW

Groupshow is not a band, it’s a method. Jan Jelinek, Hanno Leichtmann and Andrew Pekler use this method to investigate the act of the modular interconnection of electronics, acoustics, percussion, guitar, samplers, improvisation and synapses, of different personalities and their constantly changing communication with one another.

The Norwegian award winning artist NATALIE SANDTORV has established herself as quite a unique, stand-out and strong musician and composer within the European avant-garde jazz movement. The past year the vocalist and her band »FREEDOM NATION« has taken the music scene with a raw alternative rock with a spiritual echo of free jazz.

TRISTAN HONSINGER’S HOPSCOTCH

Tristan Honsinger is a living legend. As a cellist, composer and performance artist, the Berlin-based American has been involved in some of the most significant developments in improvised music since the early 70s.

PRACTICAL MUSIC

LET’S GET PRACTICAL!

Originally conceived as a one-off at Amsterdam's legendary October Meeting 2016 at the Bimhuis, it quickly was clear that the Dutch multi-instrumentalists and performers Oscar Jan Hoogland and Jasper Stadhouders as well as Berlin's stellar percussionist Christian Lillinger must continue the madness.

SACRED GROVES – HAILING FROM NAIROBI

TALIBAM! ENSEMBLE DE NEU WITH DODÓ KIS & RON STABINSKY

TALIBAM! ENSEMBLE DE NEU WITH DODÓ KIS & RON STABINSKY

VANDEWEYER / ILLVIBE / DRAKE FEAT. REAL GEIZT / SPLIDTTERCRIST

Marimba, vibraphone, metal plates, drums, record players, and voice boxes – all turned inside out. These are the weapons of choice when the Belgian vibraphonist Els Vandeweyer, American drummer Hamid Drake, turntablist DJ Illvibe and rap masters Real Geizt / Splidttercrist // Imitierte Signale from Berlin take the stage in a creative showdown.

A MUSICAL STORYTELLER: MATANA ROBERTS

Matana Roberts is a saxophonist, composer, a sound and concept artist, and is obsessed with the way the past influences our present. She sees her work in all of these areas both as field research and political intervention. In 2016, Roberts recorded a series of saxophone performances in subway stations, giving them titles that highlight the struggle between Native Americans and their colonizers...

Eye for an eye: EX EYE

Components of free jazz and the remains of blackened metal, organized according to the logic of math rock and compressed through a steamroller of noise: this is EX EYE, a group that defines itself as a “post-everything quartet”...

GIOVANNI LAMI > Attraction. Repulsion. Reversion.

Giovanni Lami immerses himself in the phenomenon of magnetism with unrestrained curiosity and regularly wrestles surprising insights out of it. In his performances, he manipulates in real time the sounds that are buried within the metal oxide layers of magnetic tape a million times over and can be teased out time and time again.

IRREVERSIBLE ENTANGLEMENTS

IRREVERSIBLE ENTANGLEMENTS

Poet and performer Camae Ayewa, better known under her alias Moor Mother, originally teamed up with saxophonist Keir Neuringer and bassist Luke Stewart to take a stand against police brutality after the death of Akai Gurley in New York in 2014.

LAURIE ANDERSON – sound holograms

Mieko Suzuki uses time and space as her canvas, which she colours with rhythms and harmonies. In her highly unconventional DJ sets and performances, during which she works with drones, noise and field recordings, with the crackling of electrical circuits and snippets of vinyl records, the Hiroshima-born sound artist is not afraid of the unexpected.

RABIH BEAINI – lawlessness on the dance floor

Some people believe that techno is an excess of clarity, an endlessly repeating, crystal clear, foreseeable loop of booming bass and treble. Rabih Beaini is the living antithesis of this idea. With every tabla beat, every dissonance and every audacious rhythm in his tracks and DJ sets, with every fibre of his being, Beaini is the opposite of predictable.
